I am going to have spinal fusion surgery in 2 days to correct spinal problems I was born with.
I also have severe osteoporosis.
The neurosurgeon who will be doing the procedure stated he has all his patients with osteoporosis take Forteo (drug name terperatide) daily injections.
He stated he has seen results within 6 weeks & this drug works better because it is a substitute parathyroid hormone.

I have given myself 2 injections & have headache, bones aching, joint pains, & nausea. The instructions with the drug, state this is common & will subside soon.

I would like to hear from other listers who have used this drug---

Did it make you sick?
Did the side effects subside?
Most importantly --Did it help improve your osteoporosis?

I did have the drug checked for gluten & was told it is gluten free.

I was treated with Actonel/Fosamax before my celiac disease was diagnosed, back in 2000, & had a heart attack - probably because of low blood calcium caused by fosamax.

This list & all the folks on it are so helpful & wonderful.

Mary in MI
