Thanks, much, to everyone who replied to my Kraft posting.
I had gone to lurk mode for a few years after getting some
immensely negative emails ... so I posted with trepidation.
I am pleased to report that I received nothing but "you go!"
and "what a pain" emails of support. A few wrote to say
they had no issues with Altoids, had been enjoying them
for years w/out any adverse reactions.

Secondly. I contacted the FDA about this issue. Mostly
for an education; I wanted to know if food manufacturers
were allowed, legally, to play fast and loose with ingredients.
[ my heart still thumps thinking about the "ingredients change
faster than the labels" statement.] I spoke with a very nice
woman from the FDA this morning. She affirmed that food
manufacturers are required to divulge ingredients, especially
for those of us with allergen issues. She was appalled at
Kraft's suggestion I just eat an Altoid, wait for a reaction, and
then I'll have my answer.

She is sending me a "med watch" form which will allow me
to notify the FDA that I have had an adverse reaction to a food
due to improper labelling. She said that if they get a "handful"
of med watch forms, then they will know that it is a widespread
problem and take necessary actions to correct the problem.

To contact the adverse-food-reaction FDA person in your
region, go to: http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html

Again, thanks to everyone who wrote -- I'm sorry I haven't written
back to all of you, but I was quite overwhelmed by the sheer
number of responses!
