Dear Listmates,

Sorry this took so long to post but I was having some problems. Here is
the diet that my GI doctor has me following. Hope it helps all that asked
about it.

Mary

Low Residue or Low Fiber Diet

Remember to modify to make gluten-free.

I will put the type of food, followed by the daily amount, followed by
foods to eat and finally foods not to eat.

Milk, 1 pint only, if tolerated. Milk, buttermilk,skim or whole. Plain
yogurt. Do not eat more than 1 pint ( used as a beverage or in food
preparation).

Egg, 1 or more, Eggnog, poached, scrambled, soft-cooked, or as a meat
substitute. Do not eat fried.

Meat, fish or poultry, 2 servings. Baked, boiled, broiled, creamed or
roasted. Tender-lean: beef, pork, chicken, lamb, liver, veal, turkeys.
Fish: cod, fillet of sole, haddock, halibut, oysters: Canned: tuna or
salmon (drained or water packed), smooth peanut butter. Do not eat
frankfurters, ham, processed meat and any other meats with an abundance
of tough connective tissue. Shellfish (except oysters).

Cheese, if tolerated. Cheese may be used as a meat substitute. Cottage,
cream, or processed mild American. Do not eat all others.

Bread and cereal, 3 servings or more. Refined cold cereals: corn flakes,
puffed rice, rice krispies. Hot cereals: cream of rice, cream of wheat,
oatmeal, farina, hominy grits. White bread, saltines, soda crackers.
Pancakes, waffles. Do not eat bran, shredded wheat, whole grain cereal.
Bread: cracked wheat, rye, whole wheat. Graham crackers, hot breads,
doughnuts or pastries. Natural cereals containing nuts, dates, raisins
and cocoanut.

Fruit and fruit juice, 2 servings 1 citrus. Applesauce, apricots,
peaches, pears, pineapple (all cooked or canned-without seeds or thick
skins). Royal Ann cherries, banana (ripe). Juices: apple, grape,
pineapple: grapefruit and orange: Nectars: apricot, peach, pear. Do not
eat all fresh fruits. Canned fruits with seeds or thick skins. Dates,
raisins, prunes and plums.

Potato or substitute, 2 servings or more. Baked (remove skin), boiled,
creamed or mashed: white potato: macaroni, noodles, rice, and spaghetti
(prepared plain or with butter) sweet potato. Do not eat potatoes: French
fried, pan fried: potato chips, fried snack foods.

Vegetable, 2 servings or more. Cooked or canned: asparagus, beets,
carrots, green beans, peas, spinach, squash, tomato puree, wax beans.
Tomato juice. Do not eat raw or strong flavored such as: broccoli,
cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, onion, turnips, corn, lima beans, dried
peas or beans.

Dessert, 1 serving or more. Plain cakes & cookies, ices, whips, gelatin.
Custards, vanilla ice cream, puddings: bread, cornstarch, rice, tapioca.
Rennet desserts ( made with milk allowance). Do not eat all desserts
prepared with cocoanut, nuts, raisins, chocolate and rich pastries.

Fat, as tolerated. Bacon (crisp, well drained). Cream: light, heavy,
whipped, non-dairy. Butter: salted or sweet. Fortified margarine. Do not
eat all others.

Soup, as desired. Clear broth or creamed soup made with milk allowance
and allowed vegetables. Do not eat all others.

Beverage, as desired. Cereal beverages, coffee, decaffeinated coffee,
tea, carbonated beverages. Do not drink alcoholic beverages.

Miscelaneous, any. Cinnamon, hard candies, honey, jelly, nutmeg, paprika,
salt, sugar,syrup. Do not eat candy prepared with cocoanut, raisins, or
nuts. Catsup, chili sauce, chocolate candy, condiments, garlic,
horse-radish sauce, jams, marmalade, olives, pepper, pickles, potato
chips, preserves, Worcestershire sauce.
