Hi List:

I had almost 40 responses to the question "are mouth ulcers related to cd."

An overwhelming YES, mouth ulcers are possibly derived either from 1) celiac,
2) a decreased-immune system, 3) B12/folic acid/iron deficiency or 4) citric
acid (mentioned by 1 person). There were only 1-2 responses said no, celiac
is not linked with mouth ulcers. Also, overwhelming responses that they will
disappear on a GF diet!

Some termed them as apthous ulcers, apthous stomatitis.

Some of the cures/relief recommendations:
. Lysine (a frequent suggestion by responders). Can be bought at most health
food stores. l-lysine supplements (Nature Made brand).
. solution of tea tree oil & swish around in mouth (don't swallow, not good
for you in large amounts). Tastes terrible.
. Melaleuca mouthwash.
. GF diet helps them heal & they disappear for good.
. take injections of B12/folic acid.
. put salt directly into ulcer and continue to do this till it doesn't hurt
anymore. The ulcer will heal up. Try a few grains of salt to see if you can
withstand thepain. It is severe at first & then the pain is gone.
. 500 mg a day of vitamin C should give relief in 1-2 days.
. Zinc. When you feel an ulcer coming on, take 1-2 tablets. (Must be careful
not to overdose on zinc).
. Homeopathic remedy available over the counter at health food stores called
Natrum Mur 30C. Take 2 pills every 2 hours. L-glutamine at each meal can help
heal villi.
. Take yogurt to re-establish the flora & fauna in the intestine ... or take
acidophilus capsules.
. CamphoPhenique used liberally in the mouth.
. Stay away from citrus & anything acidic until it heals.
. Check to see if there are other food intolerance with an IgG4 antibody food
allergy panel.
. Prescription medication called Aphthasol. Recently FDA approved.
. Mixture of Maalox, benadryl, tetracycline to rinse mouth with.
. Mixture of Maalox & Benadryl & swish in the mouth.
. Prescription Zovirax (antiviral medicine).
. Rinse mouth with Maalox to coat sores before eating.
. Tetracycline mouthwash (see your doctor for this).
. Corticosteroid ointments for bad areas.
. Hydrogen Peroxide, swish (it will foam) and rinse for quick relief.
. See a dentist ... you may have primary gingivastomatitis (recommended by a
dental hygienist).
. Take vitamin B supplement.
