Hello Listmates,

I saw a show last night about making bio-diesel fuel for cars. The process
is simple: Get used oil from local restaurants, do a little bit of chemical
purifying/cleaning, and pump it into your specially fitted vehicle's fuel
tank. The thing that concerned me was how they were joking about how the
exhaust smells like the foods that were cooked in the oil. I imagined what
could happen to celiacs (and people with severe food allergies) if this idea
really took off. Getting caught in a traffic jam could make us sick! And
if you have a life threatening allergy to wheat, it could kill you! Am I
right? Could the tiny particles in the bio-diesel fuel that is coming out
the exhaust pipe have in-tact gluten in it, from say.breaded fried chicken?
Does anyone else think we should be investigating this more? I'm not
panicked at this point, just wondering. These vehicles are popping up more
and more now that gas prices are sky-rocketing.

Thanks,

Michelle in CT
