There's an excellent book on celiac disease that both discusses
the effect of celiac disease on weight (40% no effect, 40% underweight,
20% overweight, if I remember correctly) and gives an excellent overview
of symptoms. I was overweight when I got my diagnosis, and reading it
made me feel a whole lot more "normal". It's:

W. T. Cooke & G. K. T. Holmes, *Coeliac Disease*, Edinburgh & NY:
Churchill Livingstone, 1984.

Any good medical libraries (e.g., one serving a university
medical school) ought to have it, and it seemed to me to be quite clearly
written. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the weight question--or
just about any other allegedly atypical symptom.
