I havent even attempted to eat at a Chinese resturant since mainly everything is prepared using the same wok/utencils. I also feel that the language barrier is one that is way to tough to cross. Its such a shame - I LOVE Chinese food, and miss it so much!
I look forward to reading your summ. Thank you

Pretty much the only thing i get at chinese restaurants is cashew chicken. i ask for it in white sauce because their soy sauce has wheat in it. sometimes i'll bring my soy sauce to the restaurant and if i get it to go i just add sauce to it.

I have chow mein - no noodles - with my own soy sauce and plain sauted vegetables - no problems

I eat anything steamed or stir-fried, not deep fried, not breaded or coated, that is plain or in white sauce. No soy sauce because it may have wheat. Some people say they bring their own soy sauce. I never did. Beware that on the west coast chow mein is like a bowl of spaghetti. On the east coast, it's all vegetables...and gf.One unforeseen pitfall. I dine regularly at a local Chinese restaurant in New Jersey. Suddenly, they started putting corn in the egg drop soup, which is evidently common (according to my Chinese daughter-in-law). I was o.k.with corn starch, but I asked the owner what they put in the soup and he said the new chef uses canned creamed corn.....Since he was not sure if it had modified food starch or any other known potential danger, I have to ask for soup without the corn. On my trip to the west coast this past weekend, I had my daughter-in-law translate whenever there was a question, and it turned out I could eat nearly everything everyone ordered.

Hello there. We do chinese quite often. Some of the choices we do are Egg Foo Young, General Tao's chicken, the fried rices are usually safe. The main thing we watch for is the soy sauce. Just make sure it is safe, as you know, so many contain wheat. Several of the soups are usually safe, egg drop, hot and sour...... the Chow Mai Fun dishes are made with the really thin rice noodles.... Beef and broccoli.... Moo Goo Gai Pan.... there are many choices. Good luck.

Usually one of my questions is what do they use to thicken their meals? I think we all know that we can't have the obvious batter style dishes but some of the other dishes could be safe.

You have to be very careful of the soy sauce. Most of it has wheat unless they are using LaChoy.
