She must see a gastro-pediatrician and then when she is 18, she has to
switch to another doctor. Dr. Green doesn't see anyone under 18 either.
Also noted was:
I saw Dr Green and would not recommend him it took 2 months to get a phone
call returned. ME: I am hoping the others do not have this problem. It can be
very stressful for the patient for a doctor not to return calls or email
them. He also does not accept insurance and you have to pay upfront. So, if that
is a problem, know in advance.
Dr. Amy DeFelice, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital seems to be the overall
choice of many living in the NY metropolitan area. . She is one of 2
pediatric celiac specialists there. We like her and respect her.
Her administrator for appts is Susan (212) 305-8802. i've heard she is
excellent and they know the best tests to order and labs - you wont make a
mistake using the celiac disease center - they are all very knowledgeable and then
she can go to Dr green when she is 18. He is excellent - Anne the dietician
there is also excellent and you want to get to see her too - there is tons
of info that you have to learn and starting there is a good beginning
My daughter sees Dr. Lesly Smith (not sure on the spelling there!) She's
British. She's super nice and helpful. My daughter saw her 2 years ago when
she was 18. She is diagnosed as non-celiac gluten sensitive, since she is
negative on the celiac panel.
We see Dr. Philip Kazlow who is part of the team, but deals with the
pediatric population. The general consensus was both De Felice and Kazlow
are good.
At the age of 18, you may decide to choose these two doctors if you do not
want to see Dr. Green. These two gastroenterologists are part of his team and
have good references.

We do not see anyone at Columbia, but my two celiac children both go to a
pediatric gastroenterologist at Mount Sinai that we are very happy with. He
is Keith Benkov.
Dr. Kenneth Pearlman on East 34th street is great.

Anyone not wanting to go to the city, can try this gastroenterologist in NJ
Dr. Schuman at 101 Old
Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ
across from St. Barnabas Medical Center. We found him on the SCD website
recommended by another patient. _www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info_

Unlike our previous doctor, he did not laugh at nutrition, probiotics or our
belief that our dau. had an overgrowth problem. You could at least talk to
him and get some time with him, not be shunted off to an intern or patronized.

BTW, this is from a concerned grandma. My granddaughter had tests by Dr.
Fine and was diagnosed a celiac with malabsorption, and 2 of the genes. They
will be telling her soon and want it confirmed and want her to see a
nutritionist too as she is going away to college next year. Thanks to everyone who
replied. I passed on the information to my son, who is also a celiac and I think
he knows what he has to do now.
