You are correct, MM does not run on a Mac. A fair question which I passed on
to the woman that wrote the article which I had forwarded to the list. What
follows is her response to the file compatibility dilemma.

Also she notes a file from a Rice Council booklet (that was prepared with
the Houston Celiac Sprue Association). If you can't figure out the
UUdecoding and unzipping I do have the 25K expanded file I can send out.

Subject: where to get meal-master software?

Hi Don,

Meal-Master format is pretty much the "standard" recipe format used
worldwide, so most any of the popular programs can import (and sometimes
export) compatible recipes. Mac users don't have too many recipe
programs available to them, but MasterCook Mac (found in software
stores) is supposed to be able to handle MM format recipes. MM users
can use the included CONVERT.EXE to convert MasterCook recipes to
MM-format, although there is at least one third-party utility out there
(called MMCONV) that does a better job of converting MC to MM. Manual
editing works too, of course. :-)

There's also another popular Mac program, "Mangia!", which will support
MM format imports in the future, if not already. The order number for
Mangia! is 1-800-JOT-DOWN. Amiga and Atari users also have recipe
programs available that will import MM format recipes -- let me know if
you need names and info.

BTW, I recently did a small file of low gluten/gluten-free recipes and
information from the USA Rice Council booklet. If your group would like
to get a copy, I'm going to make it available to you by email. Here's
what people should do to get a copy by email:

  * send a message to: [log in to unmask]

  * in the message body, write:

      HELP
      INDEX
      GET NOGLUTEN.ZIP
      QUIT

  * After receiving the uuencoded file, the user will need to convert
it back to a binary .zip file. UUDECODE, WINCODE, or any other
similar utility can be used to decode the text. Unzip the file
with PKUNZIP or a similar program, and you can import the recipes
into Meal-Master or just view them with any word processor or
    text editor.

It's a fairly small file, but perhaps there might be some interest on
the list. I keep lots of other files on my BBS also, but they're not
normally available by email. If anyone wants to log onto the board
though, they're welcome to call in with their modem - (310) 543-0439.

Good luck with it! Let me know if I can answer any more questions.
