The Listowners have been speaking with Kraft Foods for many months (on and off)
about improving their firm's assistance to Celiacs and others on special
diets. Through the generous efforts of some well-placed friends, we were able
to get the attention of very high level officers within Kraft. We were
informed today that at long last, gluten free lists should be available to
those who call on the 800 number listed on every Kraft product. Please don't
all call at once or they will be overwhelmed with us!

In the past there have been reports on this List of unpleasant attitudes from
the Kraft customer service personnel or unproductive conversations. A senior
officer at Kraft has asked the Listowners to report the specifics of any new
unacceptable incidents. Do not send it to the whole list, but to me at
<[log in to unmask]> with "Kraft" in the subject line.

Kraft really does want to help out to the extent that they can. For a very
large food company it is much harder to know which products are GF .... they
often use many more suppliers and have more complex ingredients than specialty
food companies. Cross contamination issues can be almost impossible to
research if a product is made at several different locations and on shifting
production schedules. Therefore, some products which may appear to be GF from
ingredient lists may in fact simply be too complex for Kraft to make any
guarantees.

We can do our part as a community to develop a better relationship with Kraft
by being polite and understanding when we call their customer service lines.
