Hi everyone

Based on my post regarding gluten-free labeling and the USDA
I received questions about USDA allergen labeling. The USDA
continues to work on their own rule making for the labeling
of allergens. Currently allergen labeling for USDA regulated
foods is voluntary. The USDA encourages manufacturers to
list allergens on their product labels and they have widespread
compliance. Nonetheless unlike FDA regulated foods allergen
labeling on USDA regulated foods is not mandatory at this point.

Labeling laws are confusing. I have written about FDA and USDA
allergen and gluten-free labeling in the newsletter section of my
website www.glutenfreedietitian.com.
