Hi all -- FYI -

last week i called Old El Paso to inquire about the GF status of their salsa
(questionable ingredient = vinegar).  the customer representative was very
friendly and patient but not terribly helpful.  she said that since they
reformulate their products every 3 months, they will no longer maintain a GF
database.

she said that even though she couldn't actually identify the source of the
vinegar, that the label would show if it was derived from wheat because wheat
is a known allergen ==> therefore, unless wheat is a listed ingredient, i
should just assume that "vinegar" means "apple cider vinegar".

yesterday, Mike Coe asked if there were any suggestions about improving
labelling.

wouldn't it just be easier to list the [unidentifiable] vinegar as 'apple
cider vinegar' if that's what it really is?

ps:  for me, i'm going to just assume that if the company can't write "apple
cider vinegar" on the label, then i'm certainly not going to trust them to
track down the potential allergens that may or may not be present in the
vinegar distillation process !!
