Some of you expressed interest on wanting to know the results of my 4 year
old son's gluten challenge. Chase started the gluten challenge over 3 months
ago.We had his anti-body levels tested before we started and they were
normal. He had been on a gluten free diet for 7 months. The Dr. who had
originally diagnosed Chase was not a gastro specialist and didn't think a
biopsy was neccessary. The main reason I had taken him to the Dr. was because
he was so little in comparison to our family heigthth. Chase did well,
however after 7 months of a very strict diet he was still in the 5th
percentile. I took him to a well regarded pediatric gastro who then suggested
we needed to do the challenge to make sure we had the right diagnoisis in
order to treat him properly and so there would be no question for him as he
grew older. Two weeks ago we had his anti-body levels retested after three
months on the challenge. They came back low positive. And as I understand
positive is positive. We did the biopsy yesterday (it was not nearly as bad
as I thought it would be). We are awaiting the results even though it looks
most certain it is definitely celiac. The bottom line is I am glad for my
young son's sake we did it, even though we all know it is a long road, we can
accept it and go on. Sydney
