Has anyone out there used Reclast for osteoporosis? The side effects and patient reviews online look extremely daunting. Actually, terrifying. I'm assuming it's gluten-free, since it's an infusion, into your vein, but the rest of the stuff sounds scary.

I can't take the oral stuff...Fosomax, Actonel, Boniva. They inflame my already sensitive upper GI area.

I don't want to use Forteo, because it involves daily injections, and with my being on the verge of getting diabetes, I'd like to put off injections as long as I can.

I've been on Evista for about 10 years, doing well, and suddenly, the score for my spine passed -3. Typically, from year to year, I hover between osteopenia and minimal osteoporsis.

I do take Calcium and relevant minerals. I also watch my Vit D levels through bloodwork and take 2000 IU a day. (I've had two rounds of 50,000 IU for 12 weeks, over the past two years. It's being monitored.

I exercise. I'm not a couch potato. But I don't do the 30 minutes of straight walking that the doc recommends.

With "old age" (60's), celiac, thyroid disease, and asthma (steroids)......both my rheumatologist and endocrinologist want me on something other than Evista. (I don't want to give up the Evista because there is a history of breast cancer in the family.)

Any advice from personal experience or medical expertise is welcome.

(I haven't forgotten to summarize the responses about genetics and celiac. Haven't had time. Will summarize both.)

Thanks. Lin
