<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>

Thank the many listmates who responded to my questions about continued
floating stools after 8 months GF. The following a a summary of the
responses.

A couple of people felt this could indicate serious problems and should be
investigated further. They cited a condition called Steatorrhea.

A couple of people felt that 8 months was not enough time because it took
them longer for stools not to float.

Several had the same problem as I and in talking to their Doctors, were told
to forget about it, it is not significant.

The responses that seemed to fit my situation said that eating a lot of
fiber, if one is Celiac or not, will cause floating stools. Also, captured
gas bubbles will do the same thing. Because I suffer from chronic
constipation, I take Metamucil twice a day. That is a lot of fiber and could
certainly account for the situation.

I was told that light stool color along with the floating was more indicative
of a problem than a normal dark color and an oily residue in the bowl along
with the floating would indicate a malabsorbtion of fat which could also be a
cause.

Since I am careful and feel well, I have decided now that I am armed with
this information, to forget the whole thing. Again, thanks to all who
responded. Renee C. Beverly Hills, Ca.
