Hello Everyone

Thank you to all those who responded to my question on hip pain and
numbness. I had around 35 replies. It seems to be a very common
experience for people on a GF diet, and many people felt it was either
an immune response to the withdrawal of gluten and a temporary problem,
or occurred with the accidental ingestion of gluten once in a while.

Here are some of the suggested possible causes:

orthopedic problems (1) arthritis (3)
low magnesium (1) swelling of internal organs due to celiac (1)
malformations in bone and tissues due to prolonged illness
bursitis (3)
intolerances to egg and food generally (2)
gas!!! (2) pinched nerve (2) intolerance to white potatoes (1)
weak ligaments (2)
lack of exercise (1) neuropathy (2)
osteoporosis (3) possible lymphoma (1)
Vit D Deficiency/ricketts/osteomalachia (1)

Suggested treatments/investigations:

icepack Xray Vioxx bonedensity test
see a neurologist exercises change your doctor!

Quite a few comments were made regarding doctors making discriminatory
remarks about patient's weight, particularly when the patient is a
woman, and how counterproductive this can be when searching for a
diagnosis.

Several people commented that although they had this problem for some
years, it eventually went away due to better control of gluten.

Again, thanks for everyone's input.

Take care - Sheila (Stockport, England)
