During the discussion on green teas a while back there was a warning that
Genmaicha (green tea with toasted rice) sometimes contains barley
instead of rice, and should be avoided.

I checked with Upton Teas, and received the following responses from Nina
Ruehmann:

Following up on our yesterday's e-mail reply, we got information that our
TJ22 Organic Genmaicha is made with toasted brown rice, not barley or
wheat and therefore should not contain gluten.

We will let you know the result on TJ26 Matcha/Genmaicha and TJ21
Genmaicha shortly.

.....

With regard to TJ22 and TJ26, both teas are made with real rice and do
not contain gluten.

....

So, if you are going to drink Genmaicha tea, purchase it from a reputable
supplier who can respond about the content of the tea.
