Hello - I'm looking for advice on how to handle a friend who was diagnosed about 6 months ago and is not following the diet.

I am very strict and careful about being gluten free and I realize that I fall to one side of the spectrum. My friend however isn't following the diet and it's bothering me 1) for her health - she was very ill before the diagnosis and will admit how much better she feels GF 2) some people in our group of friends now don't understand why I can't just take the hotdog out of the bun and eat it or have a little bite of "XYZ" which makes me feel like I'm the crazy one. My response to date has been "She's just a little more adventurous than I am I guess, I feel better being completely GF" which usually elicits an eyeroll or a "wow that's amazing, shouldn't she be more careful?"

I don't want to police her but I do try to encourage her to be strictly GF and have offered help in learning the ropes but she doesn't seem to want to take the time to be truly 100% GF.

So I guess at the end of the day I'm not looking to change her I'm looking for ways for me to not be upset with her when I see her eating gluten or not being careful. Or ways I can reinforce the fact of how important it is to be GF to mutual friends who don't understand why my friend can eat "small amounts" of gluten and be fine and I can't.......

Amy
