I'm glad you found your source of trouble. 20 ppm seems so small, but I am so sensitive I didn't start getting better until I changed out my dishwasher, pots and pans and dish cloths and towels. I still get DH outbreaks although I am extremely careful and rarely used mixes or processed products of any kind.

--I'm guessing this does not apply, but thought I'd pass this on anyway just because our experience is so fresh in my mind. My son who has celiac has been feeling poorly for the past month - sore throat, headache, overwhelming fatigue. I guessed he was having a gluten reaction, but couldn't find the source. I finally took him in to the pediatrician who ran some bloodworm, and we discovered he has mono! I know you seem to have identified the source of your distress, and I hope that puts an end to your symptoms, but if it doesn't, you just might want to see if something else is going on.

Do you have seasonal allergies? I know where I live, the trees have suddenly dumped a lot of pollen out and I am really feeling it this year. My daughter (celiac too) is experiencing the sore throat, while I have sinus symptoms. Just a thought. You could very well be reacting to the food you ate too.

I hope you have found the source of your glutening. No flames about 20ppm as that will probably be the US definition of GF. Anyone who eats grains, probably gets some gluten. I have heard more than one doctor say that all grains are potentially contaminated with wheat.

Before I went GF I always had a feeling of something in my throat and I had difficulty swallowing at times.

I have chronic reflux and one of the first symptoms I get when an episode comes on is a sore throat- next comes a dry cough. I am very good with my diet ( have been GF for 16 years) but I do believe that my eflux is exacerbated by an occasional accidental gluten slip up!

I have this acid reflux feeling (I do not have Celiac - members of my family do) when I eat wheat or am stressed and eat. I believe I have a wheat allergy or maybe celiac - and not yet dianosed. It feels like a lump in my throat or like the food is stuck. When I'm exposed to other things I'm allergic to (like cats) - I get flu/cold like symptoms - I feel warm, sore throat, achy, etc...

--Maybe you have a wheat allergy in addition to Celiac?

--I have the same sore throat and it is GERD.

--It might be from acid reflux coming up while you sleep, acid is a real danger because if you are lying flat it can swell and scar your bronchial tubes also and get into your lungs. If I have any symptoms at all I take a low dose Pepcid. For now sleep with more pillows. Hopefully it will go away quickly now that you have found the source.

Likewise, I have had a sore throat too, but I hadn't realized it may be from possible gluten contamination. I usually get a sore throat right before getting sick, but everything else is okay (except for bathroom trips) and I have been keeping Halls in business.

--You might be mouth breathing in your sleep and drying out your upper airway. Try a lot of water during the day and some sips at night.

--I remember having this prior to being dx and always > thought it was just from a cold. Cold/flu/sinus symptoms are exactly what I have. I have never suffered from the weight loss and diarrhea of typical celiac. I am convinced now that nearly all the colds I had when I was young were actually celiac. I used to say I had a perpetual cold.
I am also coming to realize that the intestinal damage and villi damage are very similar to a skin rash, and virtually identical to inflamed nasal passages. It all of these gluten
provokes and immune attack on the epithelium. In other words celiac is a gluten allergy where you get a rash inside your stomach.
In my case it takes 1-3 days after ingestion before problems start to show up. If I ingest low levels of gluten every day for a week, I will not detect anything special about any meal. Nevertheless it all adds up and I eventually become ill from it. It makes a big difference if I eat a whole loaf of 20ppm bread or only two slices. All those 20ppm slices and cupcakes add up over the span of two weeks. I need to restrict my intake of manufactured products, even gluten-free ones, in favor of things that are naturally gluten free and things I bake myself. Perhaps you need to do the same. I have noticed a similar effect from plain rice, as though rice contained the equivalent of 20ppm or so. Most gluten free baked goods do contain rice, and I seem to do better without them. So far all I have found is the Ener-G pretzels. I am still puzzling this out.

--Yes, I have sore throat as a symptom of gluten accident. I also get burning lips and mucosal linings. I have been told it is just my immune system acting to the gluten, as in an allergic reaction. I have had the sore throat since before dx with cd when I eat gluten. But it was odd that I did not get the other burning till after dx and going gf.

--SEE YOU DOCTOR.

--take the homeopathic remedy veratrum alb 30c..2 pills under the tongue as needed stops gluten reactions. You get them from a health food store for under $6..my md recommended this
