 Dear Ms. Curet:

Shuster Laboratories, Inc. is a technical consulting organization
retained
by Newman's Own, Inc. to provide technical and quality assurance
services.
Newman's Own welcomes questions or comments about all their products.

Over the past several years, Newman's Own has had several dozen
inquiries
concerning celiac disease. Since that time, we have received a
substantial
quantity of technical information on this subject. Based on this
information, we feel the following Newman's Own products are gluten
free:

- Newman's Own Spaghetti Sauce (all varieties)
- Newman's Own Popcorn
- Newman's Own Microwave Popcorn
- Newman's Own Lemonade
- Newman's Own Organics - Sweet Dark Chocolate Products
- Newman's Own Organics Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips

The gluten containing status of Newman's Own Salad Dressing and
Newman's Own
Salsas (all varieties) is uncertain because these products contain
distilled
vinegar which is typically produced from grains such as wheat.

We consider the following Newman's Own products to contain gluten:

- Newman's Own Organics Pretzels (all types)
- Organic unbleached wheat flour
- Newman's Own Organics Milk Chocolate and Crisped Rice Milk
Chocolate
- Organic barley malt extract

We would consider these products unacceptable in a gluten-free diet.

Recently, we were provided some information concerning celiac disease
which
we would like to share with you. You will note that the two articles
address the gluten containing status of vinegar and distilled alcoholic
spirits. Based on the article covering vinegars, some celiacs would
also
consider the Salsas and the Salad Dressings gluten free. We recommend
discussing the use of these products with your physician to determine
if
they would be acceptable for inclusion in your diet.

Below are the addresses for the two websites from which the enclosed
material was taken. Also listed are the addresses of two celiac
associations which could be very helpful to you.
