Along with testing the child for CD I would look into the yeast issue. My
son had both problems. They have tied systemic candida yeast infection to
seizures, hyperactivity etc etc. Dr. Shaw in Kansas City MO has developed a
urine test to check for yeast. We have used this test on both of our
children and feel it is one of the most useful things we have done. Dr. Shaw
can be reached by email: [log in to unmask] or phone 913-341-8949. Our
insurance covered the test cost. I don't know how it will work with you
being in Canada. Dr. Shaw is easy to talk to, will discuss with parents or
physicians the yeast issue and his test. He gives recomendations along with
his test results. MS people are finding that getting control of their yeast
problems helps their MS symptoms, which what made me think of yeast and this
little girl. A pot belly is also a sign of yeast overload. I don't know if
this will help at all but at least it's an option. The Yeast Connection and
the Woman by Dr. Crook is an excellent book. It gives lots of suggestions
and diet recommendations to do on you own if you can't get a dr. to help you.
By the way, the pediatrician absolutely refuses to believe our son is CD.
He is big for his age and doesn't fit the classic CD picture at all. The
fact that he has improved drastically with a gluten and casein free diet is
just a coincindance, ( oh boy ignore my spelling!) according to the
pediatician.
