Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for your quick responses.

The following substitutions for Synthroid were suggested:

3 people suggested Levoxyl from Jones Medical -- verified to be GF a month ago
1 person suggested Thyrolar from Forest Pharmaceuticals (Forest states that all of their medications are GF)
1 person suggested Armour (thyroid) from Forest -- a natural product, but sometimes T4 levels are hard to control
1 person suggested Unithroid
1 person suggested using a compounded Synthroid from Stokes
4 people suggested continuing to use Synthroid

1 person suggested checking www.rxlist.com for info on medication ingredients.
2 people suggested checking with Stokes Pharmacy.
1 person suggested checking Abigail's list under medications. There is a list that you can access that names several drug companies that state that all of their medications are GF.

I forwarded all of your suggestions to my friend. Before making a decision to change, she again called the makers of Synthroid (Knoll now bought out by Abbott Labs). She spoke with yet another rep and he again advised that even though their formula has not changed, and the ingredients that they have are GF, they cannot vouch for the ingredients that they obtain from other sources. Therefore, they cannot state that Synthroid is GF.

As a side note, Abbott Labs is listed on Abigail's list as one of the companies who advises that all of their medications are GF. Apparently this is no longer the case.

In view of the above statement and the information that she had previously received from Knoll about Synthroid, she has definitely decided NOT to stay on Synthroid.

From your recommendations, she will be asking her doctor to prescribe Levoxyl. She prefers to spend her money with a company that is willing to assure us that their product is GF.

Thank you again for all of your help.
