I received so many replies. The majority of you said to contact the hall
where the reception is going to be held and talk to the catering manager.
Explain that I am not looking for special treatment, just want to see if anything
that they are serving will be fine for us to eat. Some said offer to pay if
there are any extra costs for our meals (so the bride or groom wouldn't get
the bill.) Some said to eat before I go, or eat afterwards. Others said just
go don't bother the bride or groom or their parents and just see what looks
ok to eat like salad fruit veggies. While others said to bring your own food
in a metal tin with lid and ask for it to be warmed up in oven. I could bring
my own food in a lovely gift bag so as not to draw attention. I could bring
my food in a lunch box (they have lunch bags that looks like a purse.) Some
said to pack a cooler with food and leave in the car and just go out and eat
something then go back to the reception. As a spoke to the hall manager she
told me she would contact the caterer and make her aware of our needs. She
also said she knew about the wheat and gluten free diet, that her friend was
celiac. I ask her if she knew of our support group in town and she said yes,
my friend started it. Of course I know her. What a small world. She said
if she had any questions about any food item she would have her come down and
check it out. WOW it pays to just peak up.
Thanks to everyone for your advice. Oh and of course I'll have to bring
our own cake.
