Recently there were some postings about the reference book, "Celiac Disease, A Guide Through the Medicine Cabinet".
When the 2003 edition became available, I bought one. It listed gluten and lactose free medicines by name, also listed all over the counter products by manufacturers, and listed pharmaceutical companies address and phone, etc. with the date of contact. There was more but those were the most important to me.
Last fall I took the book to my pharmacists and left it for their perusal for a few days. They both thought it was an excellent source of information. After discussion, all of us decided to wait until the 2006 edition became available before buying a new one.
When the 2006 edition came I was amazed at the many changes. The first section lists all products by category, not just alphabetically. Then gives the following information: Form, Strength, prescription needed and if they contain Gluten, Lactose, Iodine, Casein, Sugar,Caffeine,Alcohol, or Soy. Then the date this was confirmed.
The next section is all Products by Name. the same information is given as section 1.
The last section is a Directory of Manufacturers which includes name, address and the all important phone number! This section is 79 pages long this year. My pharmacist said this list alone is worth the price of the book.
Speaking of price, have those who said it was too expensive, bought any reference book or college textbook lately?
Best Regards,

Gladys Ward
