Hi, everyone,

I got so many responses on my question about handling wedding
receptions--thanks for your ideas and encouragement.

There was much similar advice. Number one, call and talk to the caterer
directly rather than getting the family involved. Many people have done
this successfully. A few caterers even offered to make special meals if
the planned meal was unworkable.

Others brought in their own food, either in addition to or instead of
dealing with the caterer. They then supplement their own food with
whatever they can eat from the meal or the appetizers (usually raw
veggies/fruit, cheese, etc.)

A few have been successful in talking to the wait staff/caterer upon
arriving at the reception. I think this is usually when the reception
venue is at a hotel or restaurant. The reception I'm attending is at a
venue where food is being brought in by the caterer, not necessarily
cooked on the premises.

Several people also advised me to eat beforehand, keep food in the car,
etc., so as not to arrive too hungry.

All were unanimous involving the family as little as possible, because
1) they have enough on their mind and 2) you don't know how good
second-hand information about the food is.

As for me, my mom (who lives in my hometown, where the wedding will take
place) talked to my cousin (the groom) and found out who the caterer is.
The meal will be a buffet, which hopefully will give me more options
[although one main dish is lasagna :( ]. I plan to call the caterer
directly sometime in the next few weeks. I anticipate that I'll probably
have to bring at least some food. (I need to get a bigger purse!)

Again, thanks for your help.
