I am a new member of this list. My 20 year old son cannot tolerate
carbohydrates, especially gluten grains. His symptoms are abdominal cramps,
bloating, weight loss and diahrrea. He is severely lactose intollerant. He
had the blood tests and a biopsy for celiac, but after being gluten free for
too long, so everything was negative. At this point, the GF diet is the easy
part, so a diagnosis is not a priority, but if/when he gains some weight and
can afford not to work or go to school again for a month, he might try a
challenge. He had to drop out of college this past semester, but plans to go
back part time later this month.

He has experimented with alternate grains, but right now, he is trying to cope
with no grains except some rice, only miniscule amounts of fruit, no sugar or
milk, and a list of foods he can't eat because his throat itches and swells
due to allergy - foods like bananas, melons, all nuts except cashews, carrots,
celery and cucumbers. Are there others out there who can't use most of the
recipes, and live on eggs, chicken, turkey, pork, two or three vegetables,
rice cakes and cashew butter?

He has been on antifungals since September, and gained back about 12 of 25
lbs. He stopped on Christmas, but symptoms returned so he went back on
nystatin yesterday. (He also cheated a little over the holidays - if you
could call it that! He had applesauce, potato salad and one bite of pumpkin
pie.) Are any of you on antifungals? which ones?

Thanks for listening
janice
