 First, make your own sauce.  It's really simple.  Can of quality plum
tomatoes (squish 'em up with your hand), olive oil, basil, oregano, garlic,
some
onion, salt pepper.  Cook it about 10-20 minutes until it's broken down and
thick.  Taste and adjust to your liking.  Save and freeze any excess for
the next
time.

 Next try a standard Chicago delivery pizza.  Cheese, Sausage, peppers,
onions, mushrooms.  Lived in Chicago for 30 years. Have plenty of
experience in
their pizzas!

 Put down the sauce first, then the onion rings, then the pepper rings in
between, then the italian sweet sausage small medalions about 1-inch across (1
6-inch piece skinned should do it) then some canned mushrooms.

 Top it off with a good cheese.  That is probably where the taste was
lacking.  Use a good natural mozarella that you have to grate and add some
good
swiss, or fontina to it and put lots and lots of cheese on.  It should look
gross
before going in the oven but, believe me, after it melts, it will look quite
natural  -- at least natural for Chicago style pizzas.

 Bake at 350 until the cheese starts to get golden in places that should take
about 30 minutes.  Wait at least 10-15 minutes before cutting to allow it to
dry out.  Good luck.
