Tonight my husband took me out for dinner for our anniversary. We went to
the

Old Concordville Inn on Route 1 Eastbound at Route 322, Concordville, PA, in

Delaware County, southwest of Philadelphia.

We started by telling the waitress, Casey, that we need to avoid flour or

breadcrumbs when we made our menu selections. She said "oh you want to

avoid gluten" and that she had been 'in the business' for a couple of years
and

was familiar with that. She said the chef was also familiar with that and
he

could accommodate us. She knew that certain things were thickened with

corn starch instead of flour, and made suggestions about certain items that

would be ok if we got it without sauce.

There were a couple of appetizers that would probably have ok for a gf diet,

but we also had to avoid corn starch or syrup so we did not bother to ask

about these.

She brought us salads madeup without croutons, and my husband had their

baked salmon without the sauce which was still moist and very good.

I asked if the prime rib was au jus and she said yes, that would be safe.

The portions were good for the price, and it came as ordered. The king cut

prime rib was huge. I had expected the weight to include bone but it was
all

meat and I took some home. The food tasted homecooked rather than

something packaged like chain restaurants often have. Dinner included

a nice mixed salad, potato and vegetable medley (squash, green beans,

carrot and pepper strips(?). We were too full to order any dessert.

The same family has owned the restaurant since the 1940s and it has

colonial decorating in the dining room. We asked for nonsmoking and

the dining room seemed to be all nonsmoking. There was also an

area designated 'nonsmoking bar'. Dinner ran $19 to 34 and included all

the usual meats, fish and other seafood. There were also additional sides

you could order like steak fries or Old Bay seasoned fries.

We will probably go back again for the next occasion.

I have no connection or interest in the restaurant other than we had a very

good experience eating there and thought others would like to know about

it.
