Train to Make Tracks for Celiac
*****************************************************************************

Train to Make Tracks for Celiac is fundraising project to benefit the Center
for Celiac Research (CFCR). The paramount goal of the Center for Celiac
Research is to increase the awareness of celiac disease in order to provide
better care, better quality of life, and more adequate support for the
celiac disease community. Celiac Disease is a genetic disorder affecting
children and adults. People with celiac disease are unable to eat foods that
contain gluten, which is found in wheat and other grains. In people with
celiac disease, gluten sets off an autoimmune reaction that causes the
destruction of the villi in the small intestine. People with celiac disease
produce antibodies that attack the intestine, causing damage and illness.
Untreated celiac disease can be life threatening.

In conjunction with the organizers of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon & 10K,
runners and walkers have the opportunity to run or walk the Marathon, 2
person Marathon Relay, 10K or Kids Race to raise awareness and money through
pledges for celiac disease. Pledges made by family and friends may be made
on-line, by phone, forwarded to Pam King or brought to the celiac disease
booth at the Health EXPO on race day. Non-participants can also make
donations
to the Center for Celiac Research.

Participants can join the training program that is led by marathon training
expert Kara L. Kelly-Sharp. Coach Kara offers several programs and excellent
sources to prepare you for your Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon experience.
Coach Kara is the Founder and coach of the Second Sole Marathon Training
Group. She is a veteran distance runner, including over 25 marathons,
including 6 Boston Marathons. Kara blends her running experience, along with
her knowledge as a registered nurse and an exercise physiologist, to design
comprehensive training plans. She also provides information regarding:
proper nutrition, hydration, heart-rate training, injury prevention, and
mental preparation. Participants from anywhere in the country can get
involved by using the provided on-line training program or by training in
person with the Second Sole Training Group. After registering for the race,
please e-mail Pam King for more details about race day. Every CD
participant
will receive a special tank to wear on race day to help raise celiac disease
awareness.
