Since the last summary several people came up with practical suggestions and some clarification:

The drop or heel drop is indeed confusing. It indicates how many mm lower the sole is than the heel, which tells you how high up the heel sits in the heel part of the shoe relative to where the sole is.

Whether your heel is higher than the ball of the foot, level with it (0mm drop), or higher than it (larger drop, not 0mm) depends also on the insole of the shoe. If the insole has a thicker heel than ball of foot, it isn't going to be a negative heel or 0mm drop anymore. A lot of people pop out the insole (many are made to be easily replaced) and put in one with a much thicker heel than ball of foot or sole. This raises up the heel relative to the ball of foot or sole, and destroys the negative heel effect or 0mm intended "drop." (0mm means heel is level with ball of foot, there is no incline and heel is not raised).

Most athletic shoes have the heel sitting up quite high i.e. the base under the heel is pretty thick.
Kalso shoes have the heel sitting lower than the sole, the negative heel.
1. if you search for minimalist running shoes, you'll find plenty of shoes with a zero or minimal heel drop.
2. K-Swiss 0mm drop shoe, I think it is called Blade Foot Run (the style), men's. They are cut 1/2 to 1 size small. Comfortable and well-made, lighter weight than men's Kalso Earth Shoes athletic shoes.
3. Someone found Earth shoes at Walmart.

Happy Walking.
