Calling for products information is an important part of most
celiac's lives. It is absolutely essential, since labels are not
specific enough to be taken at face value. The nasty post is certainly
uncalled for

However, I remember a post made about a phone call to the Heinz
Company . The question dealt with the purity of corn used to make
distilled vinegar used in Heinz catsup. The list member was outraged
that the rep could not guarantee that the corn had never been stored in
a container in which wheat had once been stored.

While I understand the need to have GF products free from
contamination, I think the caller did a disservice to all celiacs. This
type of interrogation will discourage any food manufacturer from asserting
that a product is GF. I'd be willing to bet that makers of GF products
could not even claim that their ingredients have never been stored in
such containers.

My point is that contentious phone calls may hurt, more than help.
Bev, I a am not implying that your call sfit into this category.) Those
calls that inform the food manufacturerers are a great benefit.
