Hi all,
Just FYI, cattails are a very vital part of our ecosystem often preventing
soil erosion and providing some filtration that helps with pollution as
well. Hence, in some areas they are protected and picking them can be
illegal or may require a permit with a very valid reason. Here's one
example: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/volunteer/septoct05/curiosities.html
All the best,
Shirley Braden
