Joanne, Hi! I just read this summary of symptoms. I had been away on
vacation in July and did not get a chance to respond to your survey. If you
are interested, here are how the symptoms played out for my twin celiac sons:
Symptoms Joseph Thomas
  Diarrhea/Frequency often sometimes
Steatorrhea do not know do not know
Weight Loss yes no real gain in 2 yrs
  Irritability/Anger yes some
  Nausea/Vomiting some nausea some nausea
Failure to Thrive not really yes
  Fatigue/Lethargy yes yes
  Muscle Waste/Weakness yes yes
Gas/Bloating YES!!! yes but not a lot
  Rash/Itching/DH no no
  Abdominal Pain/Cramps YES YES

They were both diagnosed July/August 1996. Joseph is also diabetic, so he
HAD to eat. Thomas' symptoms were not as obvious as far as distended stomach.
He just wasn't eating a lot and the lab tests did not lead us to the right
diagnosis. We think he must have been suffering for about 2 years since his
weight had gone up just 2-3 lbs in that time frame(looking back at old
records). Joseph was easier to diagnose since he had to eat, and we had
substituted bread for his dairy part of his diabetic diet so see if dairy
products were the cause of his bloating. It brought on stronger symptoms, and
obvious swelling in his upper intestine for the upper GI that he had done.
His weigh loss was pretty bad at diagnosis time and so was the diahrea.
Well, I have got to go- get them at school.. So If this is of any interest to
you.......
