I guess I wasn't clear in my questions, a lot of people didn't
understand that my concern is her touching my face/make up and getting
it into her mouth or me kissing her and it getting into her mouth.

Here are the responses I got from a number of people. Thanks to everyone
who responded!

You are not being silly. We all must do what makes us feel comfortable.
That said, I am comfortable that the make-up my celiac daughter plays
with does not go in her mouth. Since she does not have DH this is all I
worry about. I do have one tube of clinic sunscreen lipstick (I do not
think that they still make this), that I verified that it was
GF. I do think that lipstick (while not eaten) ends up in her mouth.

------------------------------------------------------------------

When my son was a baby I worried about it because he was always touching
my face. Now that he is older, I don't worry about it as much but I am
still careful.

I look forward to hearing what brands people have found that are gluten
free.

------------------------------------------------------------------

It is an important problem.

CSA USA puts out a guide to GF commercial products that should have all
the information you will need.

The CSA Gluten-Free Product Listing

I also found the following link which might be useful.

Everything I have read says that the gluten molecules are too large to
really be absorbed through the skin. That put my mind at ease.
Especially since I have enough to worry about making sure we don't
DIGEST anything with gluten.

------------------------------------------------------------------

You're not alone - I, too, worry about make-up contaminating my
daughter. But I didn't know that Cover Girl will no longer vouch for
their products in this regard, and that has me very nervous. I hope you
get positive information from others, and I will look for your summary.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I can tell you this, Yes I would worry, I just have not done much
research yet, because my two girls are still little.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not an expert, and I don't know how long you have been diagnosed,
but I do think we can all drive ourselves nuts trying to eliminate every
potential contaminant. I would ask your specialist if you are still
really concerned, good luck!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Unless you are kissing your child on the lips, unwise under any
circumstances, I wouldn't think you need to be concerned about lipstick.
For gluten to affect the GI tract it must enter via the mouth or perhaps
be inhaled, such as flour flying through the air. This was advice I
received from Dr. Peter Green at Columbia. Hope this puts your mind at
ease.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I've stopped using hand cream that contains gluten or soy protein - I
was worried about it contaminating food that I prepared for my son. I've
also stopped using lipstick that might have gluten in it, but I'd
celiac, too, so that was for my benefit, not my son's.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so new in this - both my teenagers have been diagnosed this summer
with CD. But when I visited with the dietician; she told me that we did
not need to change our beauty products, ie shampoos, soaps with oatmeal,
etc. If you child gets sick easily; then I would, but good luck in
contacting make up companies - I'm having a hard enough time reading
food labels.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I personally do not worry about my make-up, my biggest concern is what
my kids digest, my daughter recently had a tissue transglutiminase test
done and her numbers came back great. So the diet is working and we
don't stress out about much more than our food. You might have luck with
the make-up products at bread and circus, I think at least their stuff
would be natural and labled well. My biggest concern is what goes in
their bodies, but maybe others would disagree.
