You can still find pretty cheap property on the big island places for 
150,000. I think it is one of the safest places to live in America 
considering global warming
possible attacks and threats to our food and water supply. Largest 
land mass with the fewest people. Enough water and it is the place 
where they are growing the most food in Hawaii. You could live there 
without much oil cause you don't
  need heating or cooling and the sun works fine for power. If you 
want to be there I hope you get there. I don't like Oahu that much. I 
feel like I live on a military base and the big island doesn't have that feel.
It annoys me that these poor kids are being deployed from there. I 
want to put peace now stickers on my car but I am afraid I would get 
my windows bashed in. Gotta run catching a plane home from Portland.
