Hi Lori,

I am Trisha. I have an 18 year old daughter Amber - with CP - Right Hemiplegia. She was a slow having best friends, one reason I think is was all the therapy and the time it took up, and then she decided she was shy. What happened in High School that was good - her special ed teacher met with a group of them after school instead of pulling them out of classes - this way she made friends with other children with special needs, and not ones with just CP either. I also had her in girl scouts, and a youth group in Church. She just started college and she is doing fine - riding the bus, making good grades, hasn't made any friends tho, but she flew to Hawaii all by herself - I am picking her up this evening!! What I think about kids being immature - as that was frequently said about Amber also - I think we all mature at our rate and Amber walks and talks - but it requires a constant energy output and paying attention to right side of her body. I can remember one year when she was so excited about her Easter basket - and was digging thru it - forgot about her right side and punched me in the nose - accidently. About driving - and this is my personal view - I am not letting the girls drive until they are in their twenties - to many teenagers kill themselves in cars. Buses work just fine, and teach them to be independent. A car and driving are a priviledge and an expensive one at that, not a right. Would rather do Mom taxi - than bring flowers to a cemetary.
