Can you not add words to these dictionaries? Also, you might want to
check and make sure any parental controls for any of your software
packages are turned off.

I don't run Windows at home, and I don't have admin rights on my work
laptop, but I wonder if there are any settings in Windows that would
control this sort of thing. Any insights on this from our techie
members?

Mag,

I don't know what to say, I haven't worked with Naturally Speaking,
but I do
know that our communication devices that are shipped with DECTalk (and
beginning to be shipped with RealSpeak too), all have speech
dictionaries,
where you can altar words if necessary. For a example, one of my
friends at
work altered his name to be pronounced Mr. Wonderful in one of the beta
versions I worked on just as a joke. My guess is you have something
like a
speech dictionary, and you probably can change back those
pronunciations.

As my friend would say "swear freely".

Thanks,
Anthony

Subject: software will not swear!

Golly, my dad gave me a laptop for my birthday, with naturally speaking
software female voice, Kate. There is just one problem; Kate refuses
to say
most swear words! Why do they censor it? It should be up to the
people to
decide. And it's inconsistent. It will say fucked, but not fucker, it
says
shitty, but not ass..... a helper said somebody else's talking device
also
won't say cuss words. i just can't believe it. Anthony, Beth, do you
know
why they do it? sure I could defeat it by spelling the words slightly
differently. But why on earth can't folks let us swear if we want to?
microsoft's Sam can do it, why can't Kate?!

Mag
