Vince,

I took Zanaflex for a time before my HMO took it off their drug formulary.
It's very expensive without help from your insurer.

The generic name (though no "generic" is yet available) is "tizanidine
hydrochloride".

It proved very effective for me at reducing night-time spasms and I would
wake fairly flexible. In me, at least, it caused incredible drowsiness--I
could only take it upon going to bed, but the half-life was sufficient to
see me through.

The manufacturer (don't recall the drug co.) distributes "getting started"
packs to participating physicians. These include consumer (read "dumbed
down") info on the medication, a real-live pill slicer (to ramp up dosage at
outset), lots of "free" medication and a nice royal blue nylon bag to carry
the works.

It is not a widely prescribed drug, so the pharmacies generally don't have
it in stock and must order.

In short, I found it worthwhile for night-time spasms, but would not be able
to function if I took it during the day.

-Kyle

Hi Gang,

I'm still here! A friend asked if I could post this to this list. After I
told her all about you, she thought you all could help.

Peace,

Vince

Hi Brenda and all,

You mentioned Zanaflex instead of Baclofen. Is there any info out
there on this med.?
