Our dog, an 80 lb. Lab/chow cross (a Chowbrador, as we call him) has
helped me catch our older cat and bring her back in the house when she
got out. She got between a bush and the house where I couldn't get to
her, and he "encouraged" her to go back to where I could reach. He
still intercedes in the cat's squabbles if the hissing gets too loud.
Both cats will sleep with him (although not at the same time) if it's
cold in the house.

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Hi Ken,

Yup, and when it comes to animals - most of us have a really soft spot.
We have 6 cats and they all have their own personalities, and one is a
great playmate to the dog, and another has a normal cat/dog
relationship. And when the kittems where born the father cat was right
there guarding the mother cat, he licked little bottoms and took turns
sitting with babies. I gained a whole new perspective on animals - and I
had had pets for years. To this day the mom cats comes and swats bottoms
when the cats play to rough and one squeals. Very much "human" dynamics.

great trish i was just thinking, i did not know all
our theology about animals was going to the list, but,
it seemed to stike a cord with some on the list and i
was going to change it to a thread of its own and just
invite everyone to join in with the few that already
have.
it is a whole lot lighter than the other depressing
thread we have going, and we can all use a little
lighter mix.
  every one?
