IPC Launches YouTube Channel: 

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has taken further action to
promote Paralympic sports and the Paralympic Movement by launching a Channel
on YouTube, the leading online video community that allows people to
discover, watch and share originally created videos. (read more.)

On 28 July, 3,000 Beijing Paralympic medals were delivered safely from
Shanghai to Beijing. With 40 days to go before the Paralympic Games, the
designers, Beijing Arts and Crafts Group, were anxious to show off the
medals, created after days and nights of brainstorming to ensure their

Vancouver 2010: 

The Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee (VANOC) officially launched the
Vancouver Venues' Aboriginal Art Programme last month. This ambitious
programme for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games will provide a platform for

Charlotte O'Neill has been appointed as the London 2012 Organizing
Committee's Competition Manager for Olympic Aquatics and Paralympic
Swimming. She will be responsible for all the planning, organization and
management of the Olympic Swimming, Diving, Synchronized Swimming and Water

The Netherlands: 

Earlier this month, the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of the
Netherlands joined together with the country's National Olympic Committee to
present the official Paralympic and Olympic Teams for the Beijing 2008
Games. This was the first time the presentation was organized with both

Great Britain: 

Great Britain's shooters have returned from the Slovakian Open (Katarina
Brandomburova Memorial) for the Disabled Shooting Tournament - their final
competition before the Beijing 2008 Paralympics - with two gold, four silver

Canada: 

The City of Vancouver, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, and the Canadian
Paralympic Committee jointly announced on 25 July that the Beijing
Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) is inviting
ten Canadians to Beijing to participate in the 2008 Paralympic Games Torch

Sixty Years Ago - Athletes Join for First Stoke Mandeville Games: 

27 July marked the 60th anniversary of the first Stoke Mandeville Games.
Following World War II, traditional methods of rehabilitation could not meet
the medical and psychological needs of large numbers of soldiers and
civilians with a disability. At the request of the British government, Dr.
Ludwig Guttmann founded the National Spinal Injuries Centre at the Stoke
Mandeville Hospital in Great Britain in 1944 and introduced sport as a form
of recreation and as an aid for remedial treatment and rehabilitation. (read

New World Records at Can-Am Open: 

From 10 to 13 July, several world records were broken at the Can-Am Open for
swimmers with a disability. The Championships, which were the last
opportunity for most teams and individuals to seriously compete before the
Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, took place at Saanich Commonwealth Place in

Richmond Oval to Host Anti-Doping Programme for 2010: 

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic
Winter Games (VANOC) is significantly closer to its goal of hosting
doping-free Games in 2010 with two major announcements on the anti-doping

Wimbledon Doubles Masters Series on ParalympicSport.TV: 

The semi-finals of the 2008 Wimbledon Doubles Masters Series are now
available on www.ParalympicSport.TV. In the first semi-final top seeds Robin
Amerlaan and Ronald Vink from the Netherlands took on the British pairing
David Phillipson and Gordon Reid. The second semi-final saw French second
seat Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Pfeifer playing Martin Legner of Austria

Lenovo Sponsors WADA Athlete Outreach Activities in Beijing: 

In an exciting first step to involve corporate support in raising awareness
and promoting clean sport, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recently

ICSEMIS 2008 Underway in Guangzhou: 

The 2008 International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in
Sport (ICSEMIS) is currently underway in Guangzhou, China, from 1 to 5
August 2008. As the successor of the Pre-Olympic Congresses and the
Paralympic Congress, the conference is themed "Sport Sciences and Harmonious
Society in the 21st Century". Four International Sports Organizations (the
International Paralympic Committee, the International Olympic Committee, the
International Council for Sport Science and Physical Education and the
International Federation of Sports Medicine) joined forces with the local
organizers of the conference to make the event a big success. A total of
2,500 researchers and professionals from all around the world are
participating to discuss the advancement of science and practice of human
