List

I am back and feeling better > Good Morning, I am on
a list for children born in 1986 and this was thrown out. Frankly, this
effects all of our kids!! >From: Alana >You asked what our schools have
done about violence in the past couple of
>>days. Alex (86) said the principal said (over the intercom) that what
>>happened in Colorado was unfortunate and that they hoped it didn't happen
>>here.
>
> More importantly - what are you doing? What are you saying to your
>children?
>
> Children exist years before the school starts and then in all the
>hours of the day before and after school. They don't come out suspended
>animation go to school and then re-suspend after 7th period!
>
> Everyone is looking to "someone else" to solve the problems - the
>someone else is us! I have no idea what was said at my daughter school as
>the day after was an all off school chorus and orchestra concert. And the
>next was take your daughter to work day. I would like to know what they are
>saying - more because we over emphasis things and make our children
>frightened.
>
> Kids take their cues from us - ever watch a real little one fall
>down and then check your face for a reaction before they react. I have -
>when the Mom looks horrified the kid starts crying and carring on. When my
>kid took a nose dive, I would do a quick visual check and then laughed and
>picked her - and she would laugh to and be fine. So still today when stuff
>happens its no big deal. We are giving the kids a signal when we make an
>incident a major tragedy.
>
> The news takes any little item they can and blow it up and mostly
>the negative imaginary ones. They get in their digs. I read in one article
>one of the girls had been a Witch and only found religion recently and
>returned to fold of Christianity. What on Earth did have to do anything? Who
>doesn't understand that Witchcraft is a religion? Or that children who do
>their version of WitchCraft aren't real followers of the the true Old
>Religion but are fascinated by the dark side that Christainity has made and
>use as propaganda.
>
> I will talk with my daughter - I will explain that those kids that
>did the shootings are sign of our times. Times in which we allow everyone
>else to raise our children. When we refuse to be the force of change
>because - its someone else job. The time when big houses, fancy cars and
>having stuff - take presidence over being home and baking cookies. When Mom
>and Dad are more into themselves then the offspring they produced. When our
>teenagers want to have babies because they want someone to love them. The
>problem is not with our children - its with their adults. I will explain -
>that all the things people like to blame stuff on - so they don't need look
>at themselves to hard - will once again raise its head. She will need to
>extra careful - We are Pagan - In fact we are Witches - One of the most
>amusing things that happens to me (I am a Minister and Priestess) is when
>I do stuff and people tell - What a good Christian I am. As tho there no
>other good people in the world. So, we are subject to violent verbal
>attacks. She knows - that we are "forbidden to harm" and that the threefold
>law - what ever you do comes back to you in triplicate - works.
>
> And what are you going to about this? Beyond shake your head and
>complain and look to more government and state intervention. How involved
>are you in your school. Are you on the PTA? Do you chaperon events? Do you
>go to school events? Who does your child come home to? Do you know their
>teachers?
>
> I am on the PTA, I chaperon the chorus, I go to Amber's school
>events, I am home >from work ( albeit all of 5 minutes LOL) before Amber gets
>home. I have met all her teachers. I am a single parent - I do work fulltime
>and Amber does have to get herself off to school in the morning - her "Aunt"
>Cin lives 4 houses down. She gets up at 6:15 and is out of the house at
>7:00. One night a week I take a class - I am working on a Master's degree.
>The other 6 nights - I am home. Amber plays softball, she in Girl Scouts, I
>have her in Religious Education class at the Universalist Unitarian we
>belong to. What am I going to do about this? I am going to talk to the
>people at the school, and I am going to start a Pagan Youth Group - Amber is
>at the end of 7th grade and only one more of middle school then she to will
>be in HIgh School. As I watched the children in Orchestra and Chorus
>preforming Wednesday - I tried to imagine this happening at the high school
>here. You know - it didn't take a big leap - I have been to the high school
>and seen the Police cars there. I have a friend who is a teachers aid at one
>of the schools for the distrubtive kids, and they are in and out of Juvy
>hall or jail if they are over 18. If each and everyone of us doesn't make a
>commitment to put one of "our" things aside and spend that time with our
>kids -
>they will be lost. Children don't need fancy houses and cars and things -
>they need us!
>
> Brightest Blessings
