Why do you think if no one did any retail at all on one day "it will be
unnoticed". Of course it would take a bit of self discipline, organising the
groceries in advance, making sure you have all that you need, etc.

I think the reason for doing something like this is not to impose economic
sanctions on anyone (it is purely a gesture of support against the way Bush
has handled the war against the Iraqis). I've never heard of an OPEC boycott
(must be a US thing) but that seems to have been designed to have an economic
effect - I don't think this is.

The only example I know where private economic sanctions may have had an
effect was a boycott of all South African produce - (which I did for over 10
years) - and this only started to bite when supermarkets realised they made
more money selling fruit from other regions than if they sold South African,
or Banks realised that students were their future Account Holders, and one
bank divested itself of all SA investments and made sure students were aware
that it had but other banks hadn't.
