I could get behind that!  I wouldn't be averse to some sort of
obligatory service (e.g., a non-military draft) for my own kids.  It
could be a time in their life to learn that the world is bigger than
their own needs--learn the good order and discipline of the military
without having to worry about getting hurt with pointy things.

by the way Obama was pitching an idea of universal
service for young people in return for college money.
actually i thought it was a good idea. kids get
tuition and after college they do some kind of
service(not necessarily military.)
