Dear Kathy,

We are sorry it's taken 18 days to reply to your message of Aug. 9.
We've had quite a lot going on - painting, volunteering, singing at
church and at the Village and keeping up with living expenses in the wake
of the stock market's gyrations. We also spent a week at Emerald Isle in
mid-June, getting together with Robin's many cousins on her late father's
side - 35-40 people were present, ages 79-7, second and third cousins
present. We all chipped in and rented a beach cottage from June 15-22.

We've done a lot of painting also, which is why I'm doing such a poor job
of communicating with everybody on the list, plus singing, getting ready
for a program we're (Village Voices) giving here at the Village a week
from Friday. Last Saturday, I was at Winston-Salem State, attending a
class on introductory handbell ringing. Our church choir director would
like us choristers to use handbells in our Christmas program. But we
love to paint and we both derive a lot of satisfaction in turning them
out. We've done about 7 or 8 this year.

We continue volunteering - Robin as a lobby hostess in Baptist Hospital's
Information and Admissions, personally escorting patients, family members
and ministers occasionally to their respective destinations and walking
all over the Medical Center, while I'm working on getting our library
holdings online via the Medical Center's Intranet, so interested parties
can search our titles by subject and am working with Helen Atkins in
Internal Medicine within the section on Gerontology and Geriatric
Medicine.

We also have massage therapy weekly -Robin on Tuesday afternoon and I on
Friday morning. I give book reviews for our residents each month and
have been asked to serve on a committee to commemorate the 75th
anniversdary of St. Leo's Catholic Church. The subcommitte on which I
serve will meet Sept. 20.

Robin has a callus on her right foot which she'll see our podiatrist
about this week. The scar tissue on my left foot has healed and has
remained intact for the last four or five months, thank God. Robin is in
beginning stages of osteoporosis and cataracts, also dealing with high
blood pressure, but she consults her family doctor and specialists
regularly, and keeps up her medications, coupled with our multivitamin
program and massage therapy to keep healthy. Her Tegretol program for
her seizures will need to be revised when a generic drug is on the
market. All told, she's on at least 6 prescriptions, all of which she
must have refilled on an ongoing basis. So, between activity, massage
and her drug therapy, we're both keeping as healthy as possible. I'm not
taking anything - prescription or over-the-counter at present.

We'd love to see you. Sunday afternoons seem to be the best time for us,
our weeks being filled with our various activities. Perhaps Sunday lunch
after Labor Day?

We'll keep in touch!

Love,
Robin and Bill
