I believe it, Linda. As one who knows church history would attest, the
Crusades were motivated more by greed then by "heathen" conversions. The
crusaders killed orthodox Christians who were dressed differently then what
the crusaders thought. Unfortunately, there will always be those who will
give in to covetousness.

One of the people I met told me the most amazing story about his ancestry
and what the missionaries did to his family (ohana in Hawaiian). There was
a fight over property which his family owned Hawaiian style which means
they cared for it through the matriarchy as his great great grnadmother was
of royal lineage. The missionaries wanted it and his family would not go
along with it and so the misisonaries and some newly Christian Hawaiians
simply took it and passed a law that their last name was kapu. That means
they had no right to use it and no one could sspeak their name. Can you
imagine taking away someones family identity that way? I wish I could spell
it Kealokakua or something like that but anyhow it has been put on the
freeway signs just since I've lived here in the last year. It used to say
Barbers Point and now it says Barbers Point/Kealokakua (sp?) He was telling
me this story as we were driving on the freeway through this land which has
only recenlty been reopened to the public.
I collect czech glass and bought some for myself as a birthday present,
even though my birthday was this summer. I'll lkeep you in mind when I am
poking around.

All the best,

Linda
