No, it was a car crash - his car ran off a bridge and the woman who was
with him died.  A subsequent inquiry found that the cause was due to
negligent driving and he was given a two-month suspended sentence which was
too lenient in my opinion.  The scandal had dogged him ever since and
probably forever kept him from running for the Presidency.

I like his politics but wish he would have admitted to responsibility for
the woman's death and not sweep it under the rug.  She was a human being
who counted for something.
