It's deja vu all over again... The recycled plastic 2 x 4's cost more than
the wood, but are also more durable, never need painting, and are making
productive use of waste that would otherwise endure millenia longer than we
do in the landfills of America. Value judgements, please?

There is nothing wrong with using recycled plastic 2X4s, especially
considering the quality of most of the wooden ones currently on the market.
But do they belong in restorations? No. No reason, just a feeling about the
fitness of things.

What I would hope is that the new technology would lead to a new design
aesthetic that takes advantage of it, just as re-enforced concrete did.
Then we'll have a spate of distinguished plastic 2X4-inspired buildings
followed by ever less successful imitators.

The way of the world.
