Heidi,  I don't know what the problem is with the roof, for some reason the
architect seems not to like it but it looks lovely to me.  I am guessing
there may not be anything wrong with it but she seems to think there MIGHT
be.  We'll see, Mr. Gove has consented to come take a look.

My family actually owns a slate quarry which has been defunct for longer
than I have been around.  I understand that the problem was that they could
only get small slate from this quarry and the fashion was for the larger
ones.  I think a lot of the houses in this area used that slate for
roofing, including this one.  For whatever reason my grandfather had the
slate roof removed and asphalt put on in the late 1940s, early '50s.  It
has had 2 asphalt roofs and now needs another.  I think this time it will
get standing seam metal though, I'm not into replacing the roof every 20
years.  Ruth
