Perhaps there is confusion between "Hollow Cavity Walls" and "Cored 
Brick"?

never thought of that.  so, good masonry practice is to minimize inside 
spill?  and I always figure the holes were to save weight/materials - 
they are for drainage/ventilation, too?      c
