Mary --

My father emigrated from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to New Jersey - I
think he was looking for more people. Also, the Upper Peninsula was in a
recession/depression for most of the 20th century. What's especially
interesting about this rural part of Michigan is that immigrants settled there
from all over Europe and there is a wide variety of immigrant gruops, thus a
wide variety of names.
